Our mission is to greatly improve the health of Indigenous people throughout the Americas by providing free acupuncture, nutritional counseling, gardening assistance and herbal medicine to those who most need it.
Indigenous people are consistently the population group with the highest rates of diabetes, malnutrition, and poverty, and also the group with the least access to clean, nutritional food, and quality healthcare.
Since March of 2014, NAP has been providing acupuncture treatments on a by-donation basis to members of the Diabetes Group at Acoma Pueblo, disabled Native American Veterans at various groups and conferences, and elders from Cherokee Nation, and the United Keetoowah Band of Cherokee Indians.
According to the US Department of Health and Human Services, Native Americans are more than twice as likely to be diagnosed with diabetes as caucasians, and according to the CDC Native Americans have 20% higher rates of heart disease than any other population group. Yet healthcare services in rural areas are quite limited.
With a small bag of supplies, we can do so much to help improve the health of reservation based Native Americans. We need your help! We volunteer our time and services at least once a month, but we need help covering costs of things like gas, sharps containers, rubbing alcohol, needles, and cotton swabs. As time goes on, we will expand to providing treatments for other Pueblos, Reservations and Indigenous communities. Can you help?
